User and Search Engine Friendly URLs

Link Aliasing is a way to create a custom, unique URL for a page that is easy for users and search engines to find. Link Aliasing assigns an alternate name to the URL.

When enabled, you can create custom links for any page, or by default, the page's name will be used.

How to Enable Link Aliasing

To enable Link Aliasing, Login and go to ADMIN HOME. Click on Settings and then Preferences from the menu on the left side of your screen as shown below:

This will allow you to change the site preferences on the right side of your screen as shown in the image below:

Check the "Allow Link Alias" checkbox in the Site Tab.

When this box is checked, if your page named "About Us" has the URL, "http://mysite.com/index.php?bid=1203", turning on link alias will automatically make the link http://mysite.com/About-Us. If instead you want it to be http://mysite.com/My-Company, simply add "My Company" to the Link Alias field in the Link Alias Tab while editing a page record and then click SAVE.

Make sure your site has its "404 custom error" setting on IIS set to the default page (index.asp for instance). You can check this by entering an incorrect page name in the address bar. If you receive the standard browser 'page not found' message, IIS custom errors need to be configured.

Link Forwarding

Link Forwarding causes the visitor to jump to a different page, and can be easily changed. Search engine robots will not index Link Forwards URLs.

To set up link forwarding Login and go to ADMIN HOME. Click on Settings and then Link Forwarding from the menu on the left side of your screen as shown above.

This will show a list with all pages that have link forwards. Click on the paper/pencil icon to edit an existing link forward, or click on ADD at the top of the screen to add a new link forwarding page. You will see the following screen:

Here you will enter the page name and source link for the page that you would like to be forwarded and in the Destination Link field you enter the page that website visitors will be redirected to.
