Search Engine Optimization Tips

In order to direct potential clients to your website, they have to be able to find it. The best way to get noticed is when your website is at or near the top of Internet search results related to your company and products.

How can you improve your standings in web search results?

With Search Engine Optimization

1.      Create unique, brief page titles that summarize the topic of each webpage.

To add titles to each page: Login, edit a page, and choose the “Meta Content” Tab.
Under this tab you will see a text box where you can enter the Page Title, such as:

Content Management System
.

2.      Write a sentence or two in meta tags to provide more details about page content.

To add meta tags to each page:  While you’re in the “Meta Content” Tab, you will see a text box where you can enter a Meta Description, such as:

Contensive CMS makes your web site easy to design, manage and grow.
Content managers edit and track revisions with an easy-to-use interface.

3.      Create a URL for each page that is easy for users/search engines to understand.

To make sure your URL for each page is user friendly: While you are in edit mode, choose the “Link Aliases” Tab, you will see a text box where you can enter a Link Alias, which is the descriptive text in your URL that appears after the slash, such as:

www.contensive.com/contensive-online-support

4.      Include relevant keywords so that search engines can find your website easily.

Determine what words or phrases a user might search for to find your content. Users who know a lot about your product, service or industry might use different keywords in their search queries than someone who is new to the topic. To add keywords to your pages:  While you’re in the “Meta Content” Tab, you will see a text box where you can enter a Meta Keyword List, such as:

CMS, content management system, CMS website

5.      Structure your website so that it is easy to navigate.

Make it easy for website visitors to move from general topics to more specific content with a well-planned site hierarchy. Avoid creating complex links between multiple pages or too many sub-menus where it takes numerous clicks to get information.
